Management and Marketing Services for the Arts

David Mayhew has over 20 years of experience developing and implementing marketing and publicity campaigns, as well as providing senior leadership for major performing and visual arts institutions as well as organizations with special interests in the arts.

As Director of Communications for Long Wharf Theatre (New Haven, CT) for five years, he built upon his earlier experience as publicist for Broadway and off-Broadway plays and musicals to develop renewed attention to the then 25-year-old legendary regional theater. His publicity and marketing expertise generated major media coverage for the organization and helped attract its largest audience ever.

As Director of Marketing for McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts (Princeton, NJ) for six seasons, he was instrumental in doubling the theater’s subscription and single ticket attendance, leading it to receive the 1994 Tony Award as Outstanding Regional Theatre, and introducing new interdisciplinary performing arts series and programming.

Since establishing David Mayhew Communications in 2000, he has provided transitional marketing services for the four-theater Performing Arts Center at Purchase College in Westchester County, New York; transitional management services for The Community Theatre, a 1200 seat performing arts center in Morristown, New Jersey; and marketing and management services for the legendary Westport Country Playhouse in Westport, Connecticut and the Biennial Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, the largest poetry event in North America; among other clients.
